Camden 7.5 ft air hockey table in a bright living room

What Size Air Hockey Table Do You Need?

Oct 29, 2026Barrington Billiards

The Quick Answer

Leave about 2.5 to 3 ft behind each goal and about 2 ft along each side. That puts our 5 ft Urban in a room of about 10 ft x 7 ft, the 6 ft Grant in 11 ft x 7.5 ft, the 7 ft Urban in 13 ft x 7.5 ft, and the 7.5 ft Camden in 13 ft x 8 ft. Choose the largest table your room fits comfortably: bigger tables are heavier and play faster.

Air hockey is played from the ends of the table, and every shot can send players moving side to side. Here's how our sizes compare, how much room each one needs, and how to choose between them.

How Much Room Do You Need for an Air Hockey Table?

Players stand at the goal ends, so most of the extra space goes there. Leave about 2.5 to 3 ft behind each goal for players to step back and swing, and about 2 ft along each side so people can walk past and reach a puck that comes off the table.

Air hockey tables in their recommended rooms, drawn to scale Four rooms side by side at the same scale, each with its table centered: the Urban 5 ft in a 10 by 7 ft room, the Grant 6 ft in an 11 by 7.5 ft room, the Urban 7 ft in a 13 by 7.5 ft room, and the Camden 7.5 ft in a 13 by 8 ft room. Urban 5 ft 10 x 7 ft room Grant 6 ft 11 x 7.5 ft room Urban 7 ft 13 x 7.5 ft room Camden 7.5 ft 13 x 8 ft room

  1. Measure the floor you'll actually use. Measure wall to wall along the length of the table, then subtract anything that stays put: a sofa, a bar, a door that swings into the room.
  2. Compare it with the room size for each table. Our tables need rooms from about 10 ft x 7 ft (Urban 5 ft) to 13 ft x 8 ft (Camden 7.5 ft).
  3. Plan for power. The blower motor plugs into a wall outlet, so choose a spot near one.

Compact, Mid-Size, or Full-Size?

Our air hockey tables come in three size groups. Here's how they compare.

Compact Mid-size Full-size
Best for Smaller rooms and casual games Home game rooms and family play Fast, competitive matches with an arcade feel
Length 5 ft (60 in) 6 to 7 ft (72 to 84 in) 7.5 ft (89 in)
Room from 10 ft x 7 ft 11 ft x 7.5 ft to 13 ft x 7.5 ft 13 ft x 8 ft
Weight 79 lb 86 to 159 lb 165 lb
Our tables Urban 5 ft Grant 6 ft, Urban 7 ft Camden 7.5 ft

If your room fits 13 ft x 8 ft and the table will host regular matches, the Camden gives you the most table and the strongest airflow in our range. Mid-size tables are the most popular choice for home game rooms: the Grant fits a room 2 ft shorter than the Urban 7 ft. If the table shares a smaller space, the Urban 5 ft brings the full game to a room of about 10 ft x 7 ft.

Does Table Size Change How Air Hockey Plays?

Yes. A longer, wider playfield gives the puck more distance to build speed and more room for bank shots off the rails. Larger tables are also heavier, so they stay planted during fast rallies, and they need more airflow to keep the puck gliding across the whole surface. That's why our 7.5 ft Camden, at 165 lb, runs the strongest motor in our range at 120 CFM.

Size also sets which pushers and pucks fit. Our 60 to 72 in tables use 2.5 in pucks and 3 in pushers, and our 84 to 96 in tables use 3 in pucks and 3.8 in pushers. Using the right size keeps the puck on the table and the game fast. Our replacement kits come in both sizes.

Short on Space? Consider a Multi-Game Table

If the room has to host more than air hockey, a multi-game table gives you several games in one 54 in footprint.

  • The Urban 3-in-1 plays air hockey, foosball, and ping pong, with a 45.8 x 25.3 in air hockey playfield and 70 CFM of airflow.
  • The Coventry 4-in-1 adds pool, with a 45.25 x 24 in air hockey playfield and 70 CFM of airflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much space do you need around an air hockey table?

Leave about 2.5 to 3 ft behind each goal and about 2 ft along each side. For our tables, that means a room of about 10 ft x 7 ft for the 5 ft Urban, up to about 13 ft x 8 ft for the 7.5 ft Camden.

What size air hockey table is best for a small room?

The Urban 5 ft. It fits a room of about 10 ft x 7 ft and has the same center-mounted motor, electronic scorer, and leg levelers as our larger tables. If the room also needs to host other games, the Urban 3-in-1 and Coventry 4-in-1 multi-game tables are 54 in long.

What is the difference between a 7 ft and a 7.5 ft air hockey table?

On our tables, the 7.5 ft Camden is 5 in longer and 6 in wider than the 7 ft Urban, and it runs 120 CFM of airflow to the Urban's 80. Both need a room about 13 ft long. The Camden needs about 8 ft of width, 6 in more than the Urban.

How tall is an air hockey table?

All four Barrington air hockey tables are 32 in tall, so the playfield sits at the same height whichever size you choose.

Will an air hockey table fit through my doorway?

Plan for the package, not the finished table. Each table arrives in a single flat package 6 to 8 in thick, and you assemble it in the room where it will stay. The largest package, for the Camden, is 94 x 53 x 8 in, so measure the hallways and turns on the way to the room, as well as the doors.

How much does an air hockey table weigh?

Our tables weigh 79 lb (Urban 5 ft), 86 lb (Grant 6 ft), 159 lb (Urban 7 ft), and 165 lb (Camden 7.5 ft) assembled. Heavier tables stay put during fast play. Plan on two people to move the package and assemble the larger tables.
