Choosing a Pool Table

Start with your room: Allow about 5 feet from the edge of the playing surface to the wall on every side, enough for a full cue stroke. That works out to about 14.5 ft x 12 ft for space-saving tables, 16 ft x 13 ft to 16.5 ft x 13.5 ft for 7 ft and 7.5 ft tables, and 17 ft x 13.5 ft to 17.5 ft x 13.5 ft for 8 ft and 8.5 ft tables.

Then choose how it plays: Velvet gives a relaxed, classic roll. Wool-blend felt plays smoother and faster. Polyester and nylon are the easiest to care for. For the feel of slate without the weight, look at the Slate-Tech tables, the Monteray 7.5 ft and Urban 8 ft.
