Choosing a Pool Table

Start with your room: Allow about 5 feet from the edge of the playing surface to the wall on every side, enough for a full cue stroke. That works out to about 14.5 ft x 12 ft for space-saving tables, 16 ft x 13 ft to 16.5 ft x 13.5 ft for 7 ft and 7.5 ft tables, and 17 ft x 13.5 ft to 17.5 ft x 13.5 ft for 8 ft and 8.5 ft tables.

Then choose how it plays: Velvet gives a relaxed, classic roll. Wool-blend felt plays smoother and faster. Polyester and nylon are the easiest to care for. For the feel of slate without the weight, look at the Slate-Tech tables, the Monteray 7.5 ft and Urban 8 ft.

Then choose the look: Browse modern, traditional, or dining pool tables.

Pool Table or Something Else?

Short on space? Our combination game tables put pool, air hockey, foosball, and ping pong on one table.

Need the dining room to do double duty? The Monteray Collection 3-in-1 tables are dining tables first, with pool and ping pong underneath.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size pool table should I buy? Let the room decide. A 7 ft table is the bar-size standard for casual games, and an 8 ft or 8.5 ft gives longer shots if you have the space. See which size pool table to buy and how much room you need.

Slate, MDF, or Slate-Tech? Slate is the traditional choice but heavy and costly to install. Slate-Tech gives the feel of slate at approximately 40% less weight and arrives pre-assembled. See Slate vs. MDF vs. Slate-Tech.

How is a pool table delivered? In a flat carton up to about 105 in long, weighing 150 to 525 lb. The playfield mainframe comes pre-assembled with the felt fitted, so setup takes about two hours with no installers. See how delivery and setup work and how much a pool table weighs.
